Private or Open?: Private.
Fast, Casual or Slow?: Casual.
Involved: Guinevere & Lothy
Characters: Hunter Costello-Nightingale and Guinevere Costello-Nightingale
Summary: This story is set in an alternative universe; in an up-and-coming RP, Fates Forever Entwined, our pirates will make wishes that will, unknown to them, alter their histories completely, and so too their present lives. This RP tells the story of Hunter and Guinevere’s changed pasts, and begins the day after their marriage.
Guinevere sat at the beautifully carved dressing table in her new chambers, thoughtfully twisting her wedding ring round and round her finger. Today would be her first full day as a married woman; the wife of Hunter Costello-Nightingale, a man four years her junior, who quite clearly adored her. He was handsome and rich, and so her parents were immensely relieved to finally be rid of her. She supposed she should have been happy, but somehow, she couldn’t even bring herself to smile, despite how loving her husband was, despite the way he’d promised to be good to her and look after her. He did not realize yet how lonely, how out of place Guinevere felt here in her new home. She couldn’t honestly say that she missed her old one though. Her situation was an improvement in many ways; and yet this sadness remained in her heart, and she was unable to explain it. She did her best to keep it hidden, and thus far, nothing seemed too much amiss with her.
After a little while continuing to sit there alone, toying with her new possessions, the various pieces of jewelry she’d been given as wedding presents, Guinevere’s maid came in and dressed her for the day, adorning her in a sumptuous new gown, fixing a pendant about her throat, and arranging her flaming red hair. Guinevere dismissed the girl as soon as she had finished her work, feeling as if she might at any moment burst into tears.
After a few moments gazing out of the window that looked out onto the grounds, she drifted from her chambers and lingered in the hallway, unsure of exactly where she was supposed to go. She was not used to the arrangement of the rooms here yet, and in any case, she did not feel so inclined to descend the stairs and break her fast. She would have to find something to say; smile. Taking a deep breath, she continued walking along the corridor, looking away from the grand flight of stairs that lead down into the entrance hall.
She peered into rooms as she went, feeling slightly curious. Her new surroundings were utterly beautiful, but they only sparked a mild interest in her. Only when she paused in the doorway of the impressive library did her blue eyes widen slightly; waiting a moment before she went in, she inhaled the familiar scent of books, a small smile turning up her lips. The skirts of her gown swished as she entered the room, running her pale, slender hand gently along the spines of the books. It felt peaceful here, a relaxing environment. Throughout her childhood, books had so often been Guin’s solace. One of the titles catching her eye, she reached out and removed one of the books. “Shakespeare’s sonnets,” she murmured to herself. She’d had her own copy at home. Leafing through the pages, she read out a single verse, picking it at random. She needed some way to distract herself. If love sonnets were that distraction, so be it – even if love was the furthest thing from her mind at this moment.
“My love is as a fever, longing still
For that which longer nurseth the disease,
Feeding on that which doth preserve the ill,
The uncertain sickly appetite to please.”
Suddenly, she heard a footstep behind her, and she promptly snapped the book shut, spinning around, her cheeks flooding with a pink blush. [/color]
